Today was to be the day we were to drive from the south to the north west of Iceland, and it was a good thing we had no walking planned, as when we awoke it was raining. Hard. It continued raining somewhere between hard and very hard (with a fierce wind) until we completed the 320 km to Stykkisholmur on the north coast of the Snaefellsnes peninsula, when it abruptly stopped.

The road was good and not busy so it was an easy drive despite the rain.
Stykkisholmur is a fishing port and reminds one of a Newfoundland port, although this one has never seen one, so it must be the TV version.

We had dinner in a resturant on the wharf side; the fish of the day was plaice, and I have never seen so much plaice (in one place?). The serving was a pile of grilled fish that must have had at least 5 fillets. Unfortunately they disappeared before we could get a picture.

Iceland certainly is a credit card country. The clerk in any store will turn the terminal to you without even asking. If you proffer cash they look at you with something between amused, bemused and confused. One could spend a month there snd not know what Icelandic currency looked like.
Anther aspect of cost of Iceland is the price of gas. At CAD$2.38 a litre, it makes even the Victoria prices look good.
Our accomodation tonight (and tomorrow night) is at a ‘guest house’. This is a regular house which has had all of the rooms outfitted as bedrooms with locks on the doors. The kitchen and living room are left for common use. We have the one room that has an en suite bathroom, although that has been at the expense of floor space, of which there is none left. There seems to be no management supervision after the cleaning person left at 3. There is only one other couple here tonight so it should be quiet.
