Rome – May 3, 2018

One of the items in our continental breakfast is a large, light bread roll. Light, because it is completely hollow. It is all crust. How do they do that?

The name of our morning coffee stop reminds me of the message that appears on the blog that I can’t get rid of.
Same coffee place, inside.
Just love the mosaics in some of the churches.
Church of Santa Cecelia, patron of music.

Today we opted to walk toward Trastevere, said to be one of the funkier areas of Rome, to continue our inventory of the major churches of the city.  Actually, we have seen no minor churches – they are all major.

Largo di Torre Argentina, archaeological site close to where Julius Caesar died, also home to a colony of cats.
Cats among the ruins.

On the way we ran across the cat sancuary.  The local version of the SPCA runs a catch and neuter program for stray cats, as well as giving them food, shelter, and the run of a large set of ruins.  They look pretty contented, if you don’t bother them too much.

And Vic found a huge fabric store.  Delight!

Home of our first relatively inexpensive meal. Notice how happy Stacey looks? Was it the wine or the cost of the meal?
Along the streets of Trastevere.

Trastevere doesn’t look much different than the rest of Rome that we have seen, but the food is cheaper.  Compare 15€ pasta here to a four course meal for 10€.  And the 9€ glass of wine is becomes 8€ a litre.  Not the same wine perhaps, but still!

We went on a long search in our neighbourhood for a place that sold an orange, with finally success. Where do the locals get their food?
