Well, we are back here to restart the second half of the Camino. Does that make it Camino day 2.0? Actually, I guess since this our fourth ‘go’ at various parts of the Camino since Liz first turned us on to it some dozen years ago, does it make it day 4.0? And since we don’t start walking until tomorrow, and programmers start counting at zero, does that make tomorrow 4.0?
The breakfast room at the hotel this morning was a mob scene with about 200 members of an oriental tour group loading up like there was due to be a famine announced in five minutes. As we were checking out an hour later it was the same scene with a European school group of a couple hundred more. The servers could hardly keep up with the empty plates.
We caught the early train to Leon (I’m giving up on the Spanish accented letters, as this tablet keyboard doesn’t have them readily). I continue to be impressed by the Spanish trains – maybe by comparison to the Canadian ones. Then a second train BACK to Sahagun, along both the way we had come, and the Camino. It turned to rain for the trip, showing wet pilgrims, but cleared in time to walk to our hotel.
After lunch we walked into town, and Vic thinks it is far nicer than I described it last year. I still think it is a decaying, dreary town.
So, tomorrow we are off. Hope the legs hold together.

Ah towns..all in the eye of the beholder. Stacey, maybe you are still jet lagged. We’ll see about Bergen in two weeks ..are five days too long or not long enough?
You cannot imagine how much I want to be there too.
May you walk safely, with happy tummies and happy feet and a well-earned glow of accomplishment at the end of each day.
Buen Camino!
Liz
Wish you were here too. We miss having you with us , specially as we have begun the end of the pilgrimage. Remember, you started all of this!
Bon Camino! Will be looking forward to the photos and blogs as we travel the Camino vicariously with you! I’m tired already – just getting through breakfast sounds like an ordeal! Actually, wish I COULD be with you -admire your sense of adventure and stamina – may you find all that you hope for on this pilgrimage!
PS I think a pilGRIMage is supposed to involve a certain amount of suffering!!!
You had to look for the grim part, didn’t you? Well there will probably be a good bit of the grim part as well as easy days like today. And if today was an easy day, why am I so tired.
Well, I have my recliner chair all set up, map out, and wine glass ready to be filled, so it is great to hear that “our” trek is about to start. ( I was impressed yesterday that after the Long flight and travel to Madrid, you were still able to remember who you were and what city you were in, AND you found a SIM card!) Let the adventures begin.
An armchair sounds pretty good just now. There will be no sitting around tomorrow.
I think the traditional wish is
Bon Camino
In any case, I wish a happy and healthy days on the path.
thinking of you both. And looking forward to reports and photos.
Keeping fingers crossed on the healthy, thanks, Mariann.
