Carrión de los Condes – October 15, 2016

Breakfast at this hotel consists of a credit chit at a bar across town, so it was a brisk before-breakfast walk for our toast.  We could have had other things – like a tuna empanada, but toast, coffee and orange juice will do.  It is cold with a biting wind.

Today was a rest day, so we didn’t go out much to give our feet and muscles a rest for the ordeal tomorrow. We sat in the Iglesia de Santa Maria del Camino (three retablos, one baroque gilded, the other two carved wood) for some quiet contemplation.  The other church of note, Iglesia de Santiago, was reconstructed after being destroyed in the war of 1809, and is now a museum of religious art.

Vic talked me into the prestigious restaurant in town for lunch in an attempt to integrate some vegetables into her diet.  I ordered the quail, and feasted sumptuously on two roasted sparrows.

  1. Hope you have a nice, relaxing rest day….you have certainly deserved it. I assume the sparrows were well cooked, and not along the line of the other carrion.

May the rains hold off tomorrow.

  2. Enjoy the last few days. May you be blessed with the best weather of the trip.
More snow here. I think it is here until spring.

  3. Two small quail/sparrows sounds very boney and not very meaty. We rode by quail when biking along the river in Moncton. They were living in the marshes that border the chocolate coloured riverbank and looked hale and hearty but were not on any menus we saw.
The Tidal Bore was fascinating and clearly ill-named since one could witness two surfers riding its cresting wave as it charged along its daily route…what a hoot.

    Walk on…not missing anything here…pouring rain…
